Trek route from Uttrakashi to Gaumukh is a beautiful path for the first 10km. One can start early to enjoy most of it before the sun is too high up in a sky, scorching the skin off your back!
Himalayas are known for its scale and grandeur. This was taken from Bhojbasa camp which is at 14000ft. The mighty mountains here are stripped of any vegetation as this region is above snowline. Yet the rugged beauty never seizes to amaze you manage to reach here
Gaumukh means cows mouth. One of the biggest glaciers in Himalaya, the origin of one of the most important rivers of India - Ganga. However, the glacier has receeded more than a kilometer in last 70years. To reach here, one needs to trek 4 km over the toughest route of this trek path, a steep climb over big, slippery boulders!
Gaumukh, the birthplace of mighty river Ganges. The river is known in this region as Bhagirathi. This is at the Bhojbasa Camp.
The base point of the start of the epic Gaumukh trek, it is also a popular pilgrim place. In summers, the small town of Gangotri is filled with scores of God fearing believers, worshiping the holy Ganges and taking a dip in the cold crystal glacier waters, hoping to wash away some of their sins!
Enroute to Uttarkashi from Gangotri, one passes through many scenic towns, one being Harshil. Green valleys, aqumarine river Ganges and rugged mountains
The journey from Hardwar to Uttarkashi is a rugged route with snaking road crossing mountains. Mesmerizing views and thrilling ride as most places roads can be dangerous due to landslides especially during rains
